Every dollar you spend should bring value back to you, with the potential to help take you somewhere extraordinary.
But the most important step in points and miles happens before you earn a single point.
First, ask one question:
Where do you want to go?
The destination should determine the points you earn, the credit cards you carry and the loyalty programs you use.
Too many people collect points first and figure out what to do with them later. We start with the trip.
Because the goal was never to have the most points.
The goal is to use them to travel farther, better and for pennies on the dollar.

Call me crazy, but I expect every dollar I spend to bring value back to me, hopefully many times over.
I was a longtime, successful IT business consultant when I started a simple experiment with points and miles. It soon turned into a way of life.
I structured our family’s finances around maximizing how we earn miles and points from the spending we were already doing. Over the years, we’ve accumulated millions and millions of miles, and trust me, we have not spent millions on our family budget.
I structured our family’s finances around maximizing how we earn miles and points from the spending we were already doing. Over the years, we’ve accumulated millions and millions of miles, and trust me, we have not spent millions on our family budget.
Along the way, I discovered there are two distinct challenges: earning the right points AND figuring out how to use them.
The Earn and the Burn, if you will.
Those miles and points have taken our family to six of the seven continents, often flying in business and first class and staying in places we once assumed were far outside our travel budget.
Then friends started asking how we did it. Then family. Then people I had never met.
That grew into MilesHusband.
Today, I help others use the same approach to earn more from the money they already spend and turn those points and miles into extraordinary travel for pennies on the dollar.
It combines four things I’ve cared about for most of my life: travel, maximum value, being smart about where the money goes and, most of all, creating priceless adventures and memories with the people I love.
