My Approach
Call me crazy, but I expect every dollar I spend to bring value back to me, hopefully many times over. What started a simple experiment, has turned into a way of life. I've structured our family's finances to maximize the way we earn miles and points. We've accumulated millions and millions of miles and trust me, we have not spent millions on our family budget. This has allowed us to travel to six of the seven continents in luxury while spending pennies.

We are a modern family of four. MilesHusband, MilesWife, and two college MilesCoEds. Sometimes we travel as a family of four, sometimes we're off on empty nest adventures. Sometimes we're using miles to get our girls back and forth from college.
Meet the Family
We decided early that we would give our family experiences over stuff.
This makes for some quirky family rules. Almost all our shopping takes place online through portals, to maximize earning miles.
We have a "Carry On" luggage only rule, making us flexible for last second deals and opportunities.
Neither policy is particularly popular with our girls, but they do enjoy the travel benefits of being in our quirky family.

Airports are Trent Swanson's happy place. When he's not earning and burning miles and showing the world how to do the same, he's running a small IT consulting company in Atlanta, Georgia with clients around the world.
Daryn Kagan
MilesWife
Homebody Daryn Kagan is still trying to figure out how she ended up married to a world traveler. Trent has figured out promises of animal adventures is the best way to get Daryn out the door. They've traveled the world on miles and points. Things they've rolled their eyes about now make great fodder for telling their college friends about their crazy family. Now, that they're building their own lives and dreams the miles tricks are taking on new meaning and value.
